Biography: Painter and etcher of architectural subjects
and landscapes. Born London 1874; died Etaples,
France 1935. Exhibited at the R.S.A., G.I.; worked in
France, Belgium, Spain, Italy, and also in
England. Works include Toledo Cathedral, Verona, and Hotel de Ville, Bruges. - from Dictionary of British Artists Working 1900-1950.
Best known for his large plates,
Affleck
etched many views in England,
Holland, Italy,
Belgium and in America. Around
1910 Affleck
moved permanently to France and
some of his
finest art deals with French
buildings and
their interiors. Today, the largest
collections
of Affleck’s original etchings
are housed
in the British Museum, London.
Most reference books give his birth as 1869.
