A swimming fish, oil on board, signed u/r,
11" x 20" unframed.
About the Painting: Very good condition.
About the Artist: Painter, engraver, illustrator. Colin was
involved in the Beaux Arts Societe and was
vice president of the Societe De La Gravure
Fur Bois Originale. He was especially known
for his water scenes. His works are listed
as being in the collections of the Bibliotheque
D'Art Et Archeologie and the Musee Luneville..
Exhibited 25 paintings at the Walker Gallery,
Liverpool. His address in 1908-11 was 48
Boulevard de la Republique, Noisy le See,
Seine, Paris, France.
This painting was acquired from England,
so we presume it was executed by an artist
working and/or exhibiting in England. Gustave
Henri Colin and Georges Colin each exhibited
one painting at the Walker, and a Frank Colin
is recorded exhibiting two paintings at the
Royal Cambrian Academy, Manchester, in 1928.
We are not acqainted with the work of any
of these artists, however, and our attribution
is based solely on the exhibition record
of Paul Emile and the reference to his 'water
scenes.' Clearly, more research is needed
to strengthen our attribution. The painting
is priced accordingly.
