Craig-Wallace, Robert (Scottish)
1886-1969
Description: Boats in Harbor, etching, pencil signed/numbered/
4.25" x 5.75" plate, unframed.
Condition: Excellent
Biography: Born Glasgow. His views of shipping and
yachting on the Clyde have sparkle and capture
the flavour of the inter-war years. He was
a keen yachtsman, often painting on the family
yacht the Calmara, and demonstrated a remarkable facility
with the subject matter which was his own
hobby. Painted in oil and watercolour and
etched. Although he produced only some 34
etchings, during the late 1920s and early
30s, these show him to have been in close
touch with developments in British art: in
some we see the influcence of Briscoe whilst
others, like Bathing Belles, are reminiscent
of the Newlyn School. Died Glasgow. - from
the Dictionary of Scottish Painters.1600 - 1960.
