About the Artist: The paintings are signed Th. Friis and V. Birkholm, respectively - known pseudonyms for Mark Osman Curtis. The artist was Scottish, but lived and worked
in Denmark. He used a variety
of pseudonyms,
suggesting that he worked under
contract
to several department stores
and/or galleries.
He was somewhat of a hermit and was almost
frantic about keeping his personal
information
a secret. Despite this seclusion
he is nonetheless
known by virtually every art
dealer in Denmark.
Note: At his best, Curtis was very good - with
some paintings selling in the four digits.
These two deserve comparison with the artist's
best work. Both of these paintings were acquired
from Danish galleries - from whom the biographical
information about the artist was also obtained.
