Biography: Born Aberdeen and trained as an architect.
He practised for many years before settling
in Glasgow to work as an artist. Like many
Scottish artists of his generation, he was
influenced by the Dutch 19th century school
and his coastal and marine watercolours reveal
a debt to Maris, Weissenbruch and Roelofs
in their 'wet' technique and restrained colours.
He painted Scottish fishing villages, Dutch
coastal scenes and canals, market-places
and church interiors. He worked largely in
watercolour. Died Glasgow. - from The Dictionary of Scottish Painters 1600-1960, Harris and Halsby.
