About the Artist: Born in 1867, Edgar Seligman was a landscape,
figure, still life and coastal painter. Active
1911-1934, he exhibited 52 paintings at the
Fine Art Society, London, and two at the
Royal Academy. He has been better remembered
for his fencing skills, having participated
in many world class events (winning Silver
Medals at the Olympics in 1906, 1908, and
1912). Records pertaining to early 20th century
fencing cite his standing as a professional
painter - "A self-portrait by Edgar
Seligman demonstrates that the only man to
win the British championship at all three
weapons twice was also a talented artist."
The artist lived in London.
