Biography: Tarr was born in Swansea. He studied at

and lived
at High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire
(England)
in the 1930s, painting landscapes
and figure
subjects. He returned to Wales
in about 1946,
where he was Principal of Cardiff
School
of Art 1947-1970. His oil paintings
have
sold at auction as high as 8,000
GBP.
Note: We received the following statement from
one James C. Tarr's son: "I have just
found the shots on your website of my father's
two watercolours. It may be of interest to
you or your customers to know their original
location. It is a farming village called
Lahrbach in the German Westerwald about 25
miles east of Bonn, where we spent a summer
holiday in 1954 - I still have my mother's
photograph album to confirm this, and one
of the photos shows the group of buildings
in your upper picture. Your paintings may
be dated 1957, but I am fairly sure they
would have been executed on site, as that
is the way my father liked to work."
