Biography:
Painter in oil, water-colour and pastel of figure subjects and portraits. Born on 12th June 1858 in York. Studied at the Slade School 1875-80, in Italy for a year, and in Paris under J. P. Laurens 1881-83. Exhibited a the R.A. from 1879. Elected a member of the N.E.A.C. 1886, A.R.W.S. 1904, R.W.S. 1911, A.R.A. 1900 and R.A. 1914. Lived for many years at Newlyn, Cornwall, and then near Falmouth. Painted many sea subjects including nude boys by the shore. Represented in several public collections. Died near Falmouth on 13th March 1929.
