About the Painting: Very good condition. The frame was re-gilded (liquid gold) and shows some aging.
About the Artist: Painter in oil and watercolour of landscapes, interiors and still life.. Studied at Brighton Art School, and in Paris under J. P. Laurens and J. E. Blanche. Exhibited at the RA from 1898, at the RI, ROI, and RWA. Elected ROI in 1913. Lived at Hove in Sussex for many years and died on 8th January 1956. - from Dictionary of British Artists Working 1900-1950 by Grant M. Waters.
Note: Burleigh exhibited views of Corfe Castle at the Brighton Arts Club (a major provincial group, but with many London "names") in 1911, 1914 and 1916. He was also working again in Dorset in the 1920s. His paintings were extensively reproduced for the print market.
