    Gallery History

Thistle Fine Art, the internet gallery, was inaugurated on January 1, 2000. A gallery was opened at 8a Main Street in Rockport, Massachusetts, in 2005. That location was closed in September 2010. This site remains open to dispose of the remaining inventory from that gallery and items from a personal collection begun in 1970 - a kaleidoscope of subjects and styles, periods and schools with special emphasis on works of English and Scottish origin, from the period 1850 to 1950.

Thank you for viewing this site, and please look back again! Although the inventory isn't being enlarged with new purchases, there are many items still to be photographed and listed. Also, several times a year special prices will be available for select paintings, watercolor, and prints.

    Conditions of Sale

Descriptions are as detailed as possible and supported by images in support of condition statements. Additional information may be provided upon request. Upon receipt of a painting the buyer may request a full refund - less shipping charges both ways, if not totally satisfied. Notification of intent to return a painting must be provided within seven days of receipt, however. After seven days, returns will be accepted ONLY upon written notification by an art professional (museum, major gallery, or an academic familiar with the artist or period) that the painting was inaccurately described or was incorrectly attributed. In such an event, a full refund will be given, including the buyers expense for returning the painting, subject to the return of the painting within 30 days of purchase.

Every shipment is insured. If there is damage to the box or crate, the seller must be promptly informed to determine the process for claiming reimbursement or to arrange return of the shipment for refund.

No representation is made with respect to the age or condition of frames. Comments regarding frames and images of frames, when provided, are for general guidance as to conditon, but are not intended to be definitive. Consistent with general practice in the art market, our prices are for the art, only. A frame serves two purposes - protection of the artwork and a "platform" for presentation. If the frame has artistic value in it's own right or a new frame has been provided affecting the price, the description will so state.
